So Long Old Pal...

It is funny how I find myself being sentimental about such an unexpected item as a car. Our old Land Cruiser has finally gone to the car lot in the sky. Just before we hit this last week of record high heat (112 to 115 degrees) the air conditioner totally died. We had finally come to the point where the car was worth less than the repairs. And so, we traded in our old car. I am thrilled to have a beautiful new (used) car, but strangely, it was hard to watch them drive our old friend off to the scrap pile. We bought the old Cruiser a few months before we had Alex, who is about to turn 7.

When Josh and I were discussing the old car, we both had the same memory pop up. We had been hiking in the Grand Staircase with Josh's family all day and were headed home to Arizona. About 30 seconds after we left the trailhead, we turned around and both boys were out cold asleep. We have seen a lot of road, and a lot of off-road, together. In the immortal words of James Taylor, "Life's good friends are hard to find, and now one of mine is [gone]..." I hope the newer car will give us the same good run! Viva Toyota!

I felt the same way when we got rid of our Expedition recently. We had a lot of good memories in that car. I think Chris got tired of hearing all the things the Expedition had that our Sequoia didn't... especially since our new car is really so much nicer! But we women get attatched to things, even silly things like phone numbers. I remember how sad I was when we had to get a new phone number after having the same one for years! ;) Silly, I know. I sometimes miss our old house, too. :( Its nice to have a reliable car though, isn't it?

Grandpa Staker apparently told my dad one time to, "never buy a car that hated you." Sounds like you had a car that treated you right for a very long time. I'm sure your next vehicle will love your little family, as well.

Ah, nothing like pregnancy to make you sentimental about odd things. I am feeling the same thing. I started crying on Sunday while Tanner was watching the animated Joseph Smith dvd. The part where he tells his mom to go out of the room because he doesn't want her to witness the doctor's cutting his leg. Pretty sure I never cried at that part when I was a kid... Crazy prego hormones!

I now have to get used to your new set of wheels. I was so used to pass you by in the "gas guzzler' home from school. I am so happy for you - it is super nice!!
